Riverside Hosts GIS Day on November 19, Showcasing How Mapping Technology Supports Public Safety and Street Repairs

The City of Riverside, in Riverside County, California, will celebrate GIS Day on Thursday, November 19, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Riverside City Hall Breezeway, showing how the city's innovators, problem-solvers and storytellers use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to move the city forward.
Interactive demos and local resources will show how GIS helps improve public safety, coordinate street repairs, strengthen the homelessness response and keep the community green and safe.
The city also shared a housing story the same day: after an apartment fire displaced residents on May 29, 2026, Lucero Onofre, 27, received support from Marquis, a housing case manager with the city's Housing & Human Services Department (HHS), and secured stable housing through the housing program. UC Riverside provided housing assistance to its own displaced students, while the city's HHS helped 12 students attending other colleges and universities secure short- and long-term housing, and property management arranged temporary lodging for other affected residents.
