Veterans Day: City Hall and the Community Center will be closed on Wednesday, November 11, in observance of Veterans Day, and will re-open on Thursday, November 12. The city and American Legion Post 721 invite the community to the Veterans Day Ceremony on Wednesday, November 11, at 11:00 a.m. at Veterans Park, 31852 Camino Capistrano. This year's program includes the unveiling of the new Veterans Memorial Wall and commemorative pavers dedicated to San Juan Capistrano veterans, including members of American Legion Post 721 and former VFW Post 3801. After the ceremony, attendees may gather at the Swallows Inn from noon to 8:00 p.m., where meal purchases will help provide assistance to veterans in need. For more information, contact the Community Services Department at (949) 493-5911.

Sales tax: the city's sales tax consultant, HdL, Inc., reported that adjusted sales tax revenue generated by merchant sales from April through June 2026 (second calendar quarter) was 2.6% higher than the second quarter of 2025, with second-quarter receipts totaling $3,381,107, largely due to strong sales from the city's general consumer retailers.

Other city notices: the skatepark will be temporarily closed on Friday, November 6, from 8:00 a.m. to noon for scheduled maintenance. Registration is now open for Winter 2026-2027 recreation classes, including arts and crafts, music lessons, fitness and dance programs, youth activities and dog obedience training. State Senator Catherine Blakespear's Patriot Spotlight recognition program is accepting nominations through Friday, November 13, for veterans and those who support veterans within Senate District 38; each nominee will receive a letter of appreciation and a certificate of recognition during November.

Free services and storm prep: a free e-waste collection and document shredding event will be held on Saturday, November 14, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Sports Park parking lot (1 Via Positiva), in drive-through format, with free compost and mulch; contact the Public Works Department at (949) 443-6337. The city provides free empty sandbags, up to 10 per resident, at Fire Station 7 on Del Obispo Street or at City Hall, 32400 Paseo Adelanto; residents can fill bags at the sand pile in the parking lot across from the Library at 31482 El Horno Street, and pre-filled sandbags are available at Reata Park, 28632 Ortega Hwy, courtesy of Supervisor Katrina Foley's office.

Overnight road and rail work: Caltrans has scheduled overnight closures of the southbound I-5 off-ramp at Junipero Serra Road from November 4 through November 6, between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., as part of the I-5 Multi-Asset Project between State Route 74 and I-405; temporary lane reductions at the northbound off-ramp remain in place until the end of the year. Metrolink crews will conduct nighttime railroad maintenance along the Orange County Line between San Juan Capistrano and Dana Point from November 9 through November 14, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., involving track resurfacing and stabilization; residents may experience noise, dust and lighting, and questions may be directed to Roxann Nunez at (213) 494-8431.
