Colorado Governor-elect Weiser Names Transition Team Led by Ken Salazar, Roy Romer and Federico Peña

Friday, November 6, 2026 · States · GSM News

Colorado Governor-elect Phil Weiser on November 5 announced his transition team: former Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, former Governor Roy Romer and former Denver Mayor Federico Peña will serve as honorary co-chairs, with Pat Meyers, Omar Montgomery, Meg Porfido and Alan Salazar as transition co-chairs. Weiser is to be sworn in on January 12, 2027.

Weiser beat Victor Marx 60.7 percent to 33.8 percent - a 26.9-point margin, the state's largest in a governor's race since 2002 and the fifth-largest in state history. Meyers was chief of staff to Governor John Hickenlooper; Porfido was general counsel and chief of staff to Romer; Alan Salazar was chief of staff to Denver Mayor Michael Hancock; Montgomery leads the NAACP's Rocky Mountain State Conference.

The team launched BuildingColoradosFutureTogether.org, also reachable at WeiserTogether.org, to take job applications and policy ideas. Governor Jared Polis stays in office until the handover and has begun drafting the next budget.

Weiser serves as attorney general until January 12; his successor in that office, Jena Griswold, won the attorney general's race. With Democrats holding supermajorities in both legislative chambers, the transition team says cabinet nominations will roll out in batches before year-end.
