The Pennsylvanian Doubles on November 18: A Second Daily Round Trip Between New York and Pittsburgh

Friday, November 6, 2026 · Travel · GSM News

Amtrak and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will double the Pennsylvanian between New York and Pittsburgh from one daily round trip to two starting November 18, a week ahead of the Thanksgiving peak on November 26.

The 444-mile route gains balanced morning and afternoon departures in both directions: an early train out of Pittsburgh reaches New York around midday, and an early-afternoon New York departure arrives in Pittsburgh in the evening. Stops include Newark, Trenton, Philadelphia 30th Street, Lancaster, Harrisburg, Altoona, Johnstown, Latrobe and Greensburg, crossing the Allegheny Mountains over the famous Horseshoe Curve.

The expansion is backed by more than $80 million in state commitments from PennDOT. The added round trip is carry-on baggage only; checked baggage and bicycle reservations remain limited to the original train pair.
