Las Vegas to Turn Former Eclipse Theatres Into Arts and Training Center Under $4.2 Million Deal

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The City of Las Vegas will convert the former Eclipse Theatres downtown into a multipurpose arts and training center, under a reimbursement agreement of up to $4.2 million approved by the City Council.
The money is not an upfront grant: the developer must first secure the renovation financing itself before the city pays under the agreement. Construction is expected to begin next spring, with opening in summer 2028. The project will turn the idle cinema building into a combined venue for local arts and training, the latest step in renewing downtown cultural facilities, as the city looks to bring vacant cultural space back into use for local arts groups and residents.
Mayor Shelley Berkley also discussed plans the same day to reopen the downtown First Friday event, which has been paused since a fatal shooting last month. The reopening plan may include age limits and metal detectors among its security measures, as the city hopes to restore the regular downtown arts event while keeping it safe.
