Honolulu Kalihi Store Clerk Fatally Stabbed; 23-Year-Old Charged With Second-Degree Murder and First-Degree Robbery

HONOLULU, Hawaii — A 23-year-old suspect, Alexis Aquino, has been charged with second-degree murder and first-degree robbery in the fatal stabbing of a convenience store clerk in Honolulu's Kalihi neighborhood, authorities said on November 6.
The attack occurred at about 3:20 p.m. on November 4 at a business in the 2300 block of North School Street in Kalihi. The victim, 66-year-old Celeste Gusman, was stabbed inside the store and died after being taken to a hospital. Honolulu police initially arrested Aquino on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder; after the victim died, the case became a murder investigation and prosecutors filed the murder and robbery charges.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and have not released a motive or said whether the suspect and victim knew each other. Kalihi is a densely populated older neighborhood in Honolulu, and the attack on an elderly clerk has drawn concern from residents. Police are asking witnesses to come forward, and the Honolulu prosecutor's office will handle the court proceedings.
