Red Flag Warning Issued for Los Angeles; Fire Department Prepositions Citywide for Santa Ana Winds

LOS ANGELES — The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for areas around Los Angeles, and Mayor Karen Bass has directed the Los Angeles Fire Department to preposition firefighting resources in response to weekend fire risk.
The red flag warning covers the Santa Clarita Valley, the Santa Monica Mountains, the Santa Susana Mountains, the western San Gabriel Mountains and the Interstate 14 corridor, from 2 a.m. to 6 p.m. on November 7, driven by moderate Santa Ana winds combined with low humidity. The LAFD has also issued a red flag alert, with special red flag parking restrictions taking effect at 6 a.m. on November 7. Bass directed the department to strategically preposition personnel and equipment at fire stations citywide from 6 p.m. on November 6 through 6 a.m. on November 8.
Forecasters expect the Santa Ana winds to peak on November 7, and fire officials urge residents to obey parking restrictions, clear combustible materials around their homes and call 911 immediately if they see a fire.
