LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential announced on November 6 that it has awarded $135 million to expand out-of-school time learning programs statewide for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

The 2026-2027 funding cycle issued 343 subgrants supporting 1,171 before-school, after-school and summer learning sites, including 98 new awards, covering 73 of the state's 83 counties, up from 68 counties in the previous cycle. The funding comes under Section 32n of the State School Aid Act.

Out-of-school programs give students safe, structured academic support, physical activity and enrichment outside school hours and during summer break, aiming to close gaps in learning opportunities beyond the classroom. The department said the full list of funded organizations is posted on the out-of-school time program website, and local programs will begin enrollment on schedule.
