Archdiocese of New Orleans Adds More Clergy to Credibly Accused Abuse List in $300 Million Bankruptcy Settlement

Friday, November 6, 2026 · Faith · GSM News

NEW ORLEANS, La. — The Archdiocese of New Orleans updated its list of clergy credibly accused of sexual abuse on November 6, adding a new group of names. The move is part of the archdiocese's $300 million bankruptcy settlement, which involves hundreds of abuse survivors.

In a letter to the faithful, Archbishop James Checchio said updating the list is a transparency commitment the archdiocese made in reaching the settlement with survivors, and stressed that no credibly accused clergy member is currently serving in the archdiocese. According to the archdiocese, the additions include 10 archdiocesan clergy and 19 extern and religious-order clergy; all 10 of the newly added archdiocesan clergy are deceased.

The archdiocese also published the full updated list of accused clergy, which the public can view through official archdiocesan channels. The archdiocese first published its credibly accused list in 2019 and has updated it since.
