PHOENIX, Ariz. — The grand marshals for the 30th Phoenix Veterans Day Parade were announced on November 5: seven veterans whose service spans from World War II to the war in Afghanistan will serve as veteran grand marshals.

They include retired Command Sergeant Major Delmar DeWitt Beard, now 100, who enlisted on D-Day. The celebrity grand marshal is two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Jim McMahon, who led the 1985 Chicago Bears to the Super Bowl XX title and won again with the 1996 Green Bay Packers; he now lives in Scottsdale.

The parade steps off at 11 a.m. on November 11 on a new route along Third Street from McDowell Road to Indian School Road, under the theme '250 Years of Freedom, 30 Years of Honor.' Organizer Honoring America's Veterans says the Phoenix parade is the largest Veterans Day parade in the Southwest and the fourth largest in the nation, drawing tens of thousands of spectators each year.
