Follow-Up: T&T Supermarket Opens First San Francisco Store; 50,000-Square-Foot Flagship Draws Pre-Dawn Lines

SAN FRANCISCO — T&T Supermarket, the well-known Canadian Asian grocery chain, officially opened on Geary Boulevard in San Francisco on November 5. It is the brand's first store in the city and its fourth in the United States within two years.
The new store, about 50,000 square feet in a downtown complex on the former Best Buy site, drew large crowds on opening day, with some shoppers lining up as early as 4 a.m. and a lion dance performed on site. The store offers live seafood, specialty produce, freshly made dim sum and beauty products. The site had been vacant since 2017; a planned Whole Foods store was abandoned by Amazon.
T&T was founded by Cindy and Jack Lee in Vancouver in 1993 and has become one of the most recognizable Asian supermarket brands in North American Chinese communities. The San Francisco opening is an important step in its push into the California market. The packed first day showed strong demand among Bay Area Chinese and Asian consumers for large Asian supermarkets and brought new foot traffic to the Geary Boulevard corridor.
