The Florida Surf Film Festival's fourth-quarter event, the final event of its 2026 competition year, runs November 6-7 at the Brannon Center in New Smyrna Beach, Florida — the festival's first-ever event in the classic surf town. The festival is presented by Monster Energy and the Surfing's Evolution and Preservation Foundation, with tickets available through the festival's website.

Friday night opens with a reading and conversation with Steve Hawk, the former editor of SURFER magazine and longtime Surfer's Journal contributor, whose debut novel Nearshore (Viking, 2026) is a coastal-noir thriller.

Friday's screenings include the shorts Learning to Fly, Kinder, and Dancing with Gravity; Buoyancy – A Surf Story from Taiwan; and the feature Point Taken: The Legend of Killer Dana, among others.

Saturday night belongs to the filmmakers: Demo, starring Noah Beschen and directed by Andy Woodward and Ian Grose, who will attend, has its world premiere; Jack Coleman attends with his new film Pro Casual, starring 2024 World Surf League (WSL) world champion Caitlin Simmers; and Florida's own Oliver Kurtz joins with Desert Mirror. Q&A sessions follow the screenings on both nights.

Special guests also include Chas Smith and David Lee Scales, who will record their podcast The Grit on site; Luke Cederman of New Zealand, creator of The Raglan Surf Report; and Matt Warshaw, surfing's preeminent historian and author of The History of Surfing and The Encyclopedia of Surfing. The organizers call it one of the most literary lineups in the festival's history. (Source: Florida Surf Film Festival)
