Ex-NFL Star Antonio Brown Pleads Guilty in Miami Shooting Case, Gets Three Years of Probation

MIAMI, Florida — Former NFL star Antonio Brown pleaded guilty on November 6, 2026, in state court in Miami, Miami-Dade County, Florida, to aggravated assault with a firearm in connection with a 2025 shooting outside a celebrity boxing match, the Associated Press reported. Judge Marisa Tinkler Mendez sentenced Brown to three years of probation, during which he must attend weekly counseling sessions and may not possess a firearm, among other conditions.
The plea to the reduced charge lets the 38-year-old former All-Pro wide receiver avoid prison time and a criminal conviction. He had initially been charged with attempted murder: police say that outside the May 2025 boxing event, after a fistfight, Brown grabbed a handgun from a security staffer and fired two shots at the man. The victim was grazed in the neck.
Prosecutor Howard Rosen told the court the state sought the reduced charge in part because there was a question whether Brown was actually attempting to shoot the victim, who was walking away at the time. The victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, attended the hearing and has said publicly that he has forgiven Brown, would not cooperate with police and did not want to press charges. Defense lawyer Mark Eiglarsh said Brown had faced up to 30 years in prison with a 20-year mandatory minimum: 'Probation was too good to turn down.'
Brown played 12 seasons in the NFL, most of them with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers under Tom Brady in 2021. The following season he effectively ended his career by stripping off his jersey and pads and running off the field mid-game. He has faced other legal problems since, including accusations of battery on a moving-truck driver, domestic violence charges and failure to pay child support. After an arrest warrant on the attempted murder charge was issued in June 2025, he was extradited from Dubai in November 2025. (Source: Associated Press)
