Friday, November 6, 2026 · States · GSM News

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds on November 6 signed a proclamation extending the state's harvest-season arrangements on weight limits and the transportation of grain, fertilizer, and manure. The proclamation, issued from the governor's office in Des Moines, is effective immediately and continues through December 6, 2026.

Under the proclamation, vehicles transporting corn, soybeans, hay, straw, silage, stover, fertilizer (dry, liquid, and gas), and manure (dry and liquid) may be overweight without a permit for the duration of the proclamation, not exceeding 90,000 pounds gross weight.

The proclamation applies to loads transported on all highways within Iowa, excluding the interstate system. Loads must not exceed the maximum axle weight limit determined under the non-primary highway maximum gross weight table in Iowa Code section 321.463(6)(a)-(b) by more than 12.5 percent, must not exceed the legal maximum axle weight limit of 20,000 pounds, and must comply with posted limits on roads and bridges.
