Reelected a Day Earlier, Missouri Rep. Ealy Arrested on Assault and Peace Disturbance Charges

Friday, November 6, 2026 · Justice · GSM News

Democratic Missouri state Rep. Anthony Ealy was arrested by Jefferson City police on the morning of November 4 and formally charged on November 5 with fourth-degree assault and peace disturbance; as of the morning of November 6 he remained in the Cole County jail without bond. Ealy, 32, represents District 36, which includes Grandview, in the state House; on November 3 he had just won a third term, defeating Republican Dave Thomas by 68% to 32%.

Jefferson City police said officers responded at about 11:30 a.m. on November 4 to the 600 block of East Capitol Avenue, where witnesses said a man was shouting outside a business, mentioning a gun and threatening to kill, disturbing a funeral being held next door. Police arrested Ealy at a nearby residence. The House Democratic leader's office said Ealy had been removed from all committee assignments this spring to address personal issues and that there are no plans to restore them next session; his future in the seat remains unclear. Ealy has not been convicted; the charges remain allegations.
