Ohio Governor DeWine Mourns Former Senator Jay Rockefeller, His Partner on Foster Care Reform

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine issued a statement on November 6 regarding the death of former United States Senator Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia, sending condolences with his wife, Fran, to Rockefeller's family.
"Fran and I are saddened to learn of the death of our friend and my former U.S. Senate colleague Jay Rockefeller," DeWine said. "Jay was a good man who worked hard for the people of West Virginia and cared deeply about making life better and safer — especially for children."
DeWine recalled that Rockefeller was his partner across the aisle on several issues. Together, they passed significant reforms to the foster care system to help ensure that the safety of children always comes first, and they also worked together on highway safety legislation to make roads less dangerous.
"As Senator and Governor, he never stopped fighting to protect the people of West Virginia and this country," DeWine said. "Fran and I send our condolences to Sharon, his wife, and their four children."
