San Diego Sheriff Urges Residents to Make Public Safety Infrastructure a Top County Priority

Friday, November 6, 2026 · California · GSM News

The Sheriff's Office in San Diego County, California, is appealing to residents for their input. The County of San Diego is asking the community to help identify priorities for its next Capital Improvement Needs Assessment (CINA), and Sheriff Kelly A. Martinez is urging residents to take two minutes to complete an anonymous one-question survey and select Public Safety Infrastructure as a top priority in the County's Priority Tool, to help deputies and professional staff secure funding for the facilities they need.

Doctors, nurses, and deputies deserve workspaces they are proud to work in, not ones they have to work around, the Sheriff's Office said. Everyone who completes a sentence in a local facility will return to the community, and investments in detention infrastructure can enhance safety, improve access to health care and treatment services, expand rehabilitative programming, and create spaces that better prepare individuals for successful reintegration into society.

Sheriff's stations serve as essential hubs for emergency response, community engagement, crime prevention, and public service. Upgraded facilities provide deputies and professional staff with the tools and work environments needed to effectively serve residents, coordinate critical services, and respond to evolving public safety challenges. Modern stations also create more welcoming, accessible spaces where community members can connect with their Sheriff's Office and access resources.

By selecting Public Safety Infrastructure as a top priority in the County's survey, residents can help ensure future investments support safe, modern, and humane detention facilities that provide appropriate levels of care and rehabilitation; enhanced mental health, medical, and reentry services for individuals in custody; Sheriff's stations that better meet the needs of residents, visitors, and employees; improved emergency response capabilities and community-based public safety services; facilities that support workforce wellbeing and operational effectiveness; and long-term investments that strengthen community safety for generations to come.

Residents can share their input through the Engage San Diego County Priority Tool. The Sheriff's Office said residents' voices matter, and that participating can help shape investments that improve public safety, support rehabilitation and successful reentry, and ensure the facilities serving local communities are equipped to meet the demands of today and the future.
