Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Waives Fees on November 11; Kilauea Visitor Center to Reopen by Year's End

Friday, November 6, 2026 · Travel · GSM News

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park has released its November schedule: on Veterans Day, November 11, entrance fees will be waived at every National Park Service fee site for U.S. citizens and residents, the last fee-free day of 2026.

The park also reported that renovation of the Kilauea Visitor Center is 95 percent complete and is expected to reopen before the end of 2026. The visitor center is the starting point for most visitors to learn about volcanic geology and Hawaiian culture, and will return with updated exhibits.

The park reminded visitors that veterans can obtain a free lifetime pass to national parks, Gold Star family members a free lifetime pass, and active-duty military a free annual pass, valid at federal recreation sites nationwide. Kilauea is one of the most active volcanoes on Earth, and the Park Service advises checking the park website for eruption and air-quality updates before visiting, as some areas may close temporarily during eruptive activity.
