Oakland Police Probe Theft of $11.4 Million Nvidia AI Chip Cargo: Truck Vanished En Route to Texas

OAKLAND — Police in Oakland, California, are investigating a cargo theft involving Nvidia, U.S. media reported on November 6: a truck carrying Nvidia AI chips and computer hardware worth up to $11.4 million disappeared en route to Texas, and no suspects have been arrested so far.
According to the details disclosed so far, the truck left Oakland on August 29 bound for Fort Worth, Texas. The pickup followed the original arrangements, but the truck then lost contact. Police tracking showed it stopped several times along the way, once for hours at a time, before its trail went cold in San Bernardino County in southeastern California. The victim reported the theft to police on September 13.
Analysts say the theft may have been carefully planned against a high-tech company. Cargo-security trackers say a series of organized thefts targeting AI chips and data-center equipment has hit multiple U.S. locations since the middle of this year, with a combined value estimated at more than $100 million; several outlets have described this case as the largest known single-truck Nvidia cargo theft.
Experts note the stolen chips sell for nearly twice their U.S. price overseas, raising the possibility that the goods have already been moved out of the country. It is reportedly not the first cargo theft involving Nvidia, and the investigation is continuing.
