Indianapolis Monumental Marathon Takes Over Downtown as Thousands Run and Roads Close Before Dawn

INDIANAPOLIS, Marion County, Indiana - The CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon, half marathon and 5K took to downtown streets on Saturday, November 7, drawing thousands of elite runners, amateur racers and charity participants to one of the largest marathon events in the United States. The start and finish were both downtown: the start sat on South Missouri Street near Southwest Street, with the full and half marathons setting off at 8 a.m. along a 26.2-mile course heading north through the Broad Ripple neighborhood, and the finish on East Maryland Street near Monument Circle and the Indiana Statehouse. City officials reminded the public that road closures began at 5 a.m. on November 7: West Street and South Missouri Street near the start stayed closed until 10 a.m., while West Washington Street and North Capitol Avenue near the finish remained closed until 5:30 p.m. Interstates 65 and 70 stayed open all day. Organizers urged runners and spectators to plan their trips in advance and avoid the closed streets.
