Saturday, November 7, 2026 · City · GSM News

The City of Sacramento, in Sacramento County, California, is launching a community Working Group to help implement its Urban Forest Plan and grow the city's tree canopy to 35% by 2045. An informational session will be held on Monday, November 9, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Hart Senior Center, 915 27th Street, and applications will be open from November 9 through December 31, 2026.

The City Council adopted the Urban Forest Plan in June 2025 and directed staff to create the Working Group; in October 2026 the Council revised its structure into a more flexible forum for collaboration between community members and City staff. The group is expected to begin collaborating in early 2027.

City staff will select no more than 20 members from the public. Residents, community-based organizations, neighborhood leaders, environmental advocates, business representatives, agency partners, technical experts and youth aged 16 and older with parent or guardian permission are all encouraged to apply. Advance registration for the session is encouraged but not required.
