Aerospace Expert to Speak November 7 at Culver City Library: How Asteroids and Space Debris Threaten Earth
The Culver City Julian Dixon Library, at 4975 Overland Avenue in the City of Culver City, Los Angeles County, California, will host a science talk, "Hazards from Space: Asteroids and Space Debris," on Saturday, November 7, from 4 to 5:30 p.m., for adults.
The speaker, Dr. Nahum Melamed, is a project leader at The Aerospace Corporation. He will discuss the basics of planetary defense, including how humankind can limit space debris such as broken satellites and mitigate the risk of Earth being struck by asteroids.
The library is part of the LA County Library system. In January 2001, the County Board of Supervisors renamed it for the late Congressman Julian Dixon, who represented the 32nd Congressional District.
