Koke'e and Waimea Canyon State Parks Reopen as Hawaii's Storm Recovery Continues

Saturday, November 7, 2026 · Cities · GSM News

The Hawaii Division of State Parks, under the Department of Land and Natural Resources, updated its recovery progress from Hurricanes Nolo and Lowell on Nov. 7, announcing that Koke'e State Park and Waimea Canyon State Park reopened to the public for day use starting Saturday, Nov. 7. The division cautions that services will be reduced while recovery continues, and that the Koke'e Lodge restaurant and Koke'e Museum are expected to reopen by Thursday, Nov. 12. Koke'e Road remains closed, with access only to the Waimea Canyon lookout; all Kauai campgrounds remain closed, as do all other Kauai state parks. The division also updated conditions on other islands: Lava Tree State Monument remains closed due to storm damage; all three restrooms at Kekaha Kai State Park are closed for construction through Nov. 25; and vehicle access at Ka'ena Point State Park is closed due to water-damaged roads. Visitors whose state park reservations were canceled during storm closures will receive automatic refunds, the division said, except for non-refundable service fees.
