Mangione's Lead in Baltimore County District 5 Shrinks to 190 Votes as Counting Continues

Counting in Baltimore County Council District 5 tightened further on Nov. 7, with Republican incumbent Nino Mangione's lead over Democratic challenger Shawn McIntosh down to 190 votes. The Baltimore Sun reported Saturday morning that as mail ballots continue to be counted, all three undecided county council races are narrowing, with thousands of mail ballots still to be tallied.
Mangione led by more than 1,200 votes on election night; after the first mail-ballot count on Nov. 6 his lead fell to 848, and on Nov. 7 to 190. In District 9, Republican Tim Fazenbaker leads Democrat Arkia Wade by 983 votes, and Republican Josh Sines also holds a lead in another district. No outlet has called any of the three races. Counting is expected to continue at least through Nov. 7, with mail and provisional ballots still being processed; the Nov. 3 election is set to be certified on Nov. 13.
The Baltimore County Council races have been fiercely contested, with mail ballots proving decisive. Election officials remind voters that final results rest on the certified official tally, and until every ballot is counted, neither side has locked up victory.
