UCLA Beats Minnesota 34-20 to Reach 9-0, Its Best Start Since 1998

The UCLA Bruins defeated the Minnesota Golden Gophers 34-20 at Huntington Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on Nov. 7, improving to 9-0 for the school's best season start since 1998. The game was played in cold weather, with a kickoff temperature of 44 degrees. Minnesota tied the game at 17 early in the fourth quarter, but UCLA quarterback Dieffenbach answered on the next drive with a 75-yard touchdown pass to Mizell, and defensive back Scooter Jackson added an interception as the Bruins closed out the win.
UCLA has been dominant in fourth quarters this season, outscoring opponents 110-39 in the final period. Minnesota running back Darius Taylor scored a touchdown, but the Gophers could not withstand the late surge. UCLA, ranked eighth, sits behind two two-loss SEC teams in the first College Football Playoff rankings, and this road win should help its position in the next rankings on Tuesday. UCLA returns home to the Rose Bowl to face Illinois on Friday night; Minnesota falls to 5-4.
