Arkansas to Spend $8.4 Million From Monsanto Settlement Restoring 21 Waterways

Saturday, November 7, 2026 · States · GSM News

Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin announced on Nov. 7 that $8.4 million will fund improvement and restoration projects on 21 waterways across the state, with the money coming from the state's settlement with Monsanto. Of the total, $6.7 million will be administered through the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and $1.7 million will support other waterway improvement and protection work. Griffin said the funds will improve water quality, reduce erosion and sediment, and restore aquatic habitat. Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders said protecting water resources protects Arkansas agriculture, jobs and the outdoor economy. Game and Fish Commission Chairman Rob Finley noted that sediment from streambank erosion is the leading pollutant in the state's 137,200 miles of streams. Individual grants range from $100,000 to $1 million, including $1 million each for bank stabilization on Eleven Point River and Crooked Creek, $500,000 for the War Memorial Park restoration and $1 million for the Bayou Bartholomew project. On Oct. 2 Griffin announced a settlement with Monsanto, Solutia and Pharmacia resolving PCB contamination claims, with the proceeds restricted by the agreement to water-quality uses.
