Saturday, November 7, 2026 · States · GSM News

The University of North Carolina football team defeated the University of Connecticut 38-21 at Pratt & Whitney Stadium in East Hartford, Connecticut, on Nov. 7, ending a two-game losing streak. It was North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick's first game coached in New England since his tenure with the New England Patriots ended. Quarterback Billy Edwards threw three touchdowns, North Carolina turned three UConn turnovers into 21 points, and the Tar Heels played their most complete game of the season in the rain. North Carolina built its lead in the first half and protected it after the break, improving to 5-4 and moving within one win of bowl eligibility. UConn fell to 4-5 and must win two of its remaining three games to become bowl eligible; its next two are at home before a finale at Wyoming. Belichick coached the Patriots from 2000 to 2023, winning six Super Bowls and 17 AFC East titles; North Carolina defensive line coach Bob Diaco also returned to East Hartford with the team.
