Pope Leo XIV Receives L'Oeuvre d'Orient Delegation, Speaks on Peace Building Amid Conflicts

Sunday, November 8, 2026 · Faith · GSM News

VATICAN CITY — Pope Leo XIV received a delegation of L'Oeuvre d'Orient and the Institut Chrétiens d'Orient in the Vatican Apostolic Palace and delivered an address to them, the Holy See Press Office published in full.

In his address, the pope noted that two days earlier the Latin liturgy had invited the faithful to remember all the departed, an opportunity to entrust to divine mercy the many victims of the armed conflicts that still ravage the world. The month of November, he said, invites hope, the virtue that will guide the delegation's reflections over the following two days.

The delegation's symposium is themed 'Peace Put to the Test by the World: Eastern Christians, Conflicts and Peace Building.' The pope said the group had brought several academic disciplines into dialogue to better understand contemporary conflicts and to seek the conditions for a just and lasting peace, particularly in the Middle East.

The pope encouraged participants to work over the coming days with 'a humble and peace-loving heart.' The audience was one of a series of recent papal meetings touching on Eastern Christians and peace issues.
