Connecticut Fall Firearms Deer Season Opens Nov. 18; Youth Hunter Training Days Begin Nov. 7

CONNECTICUT — Connecticut's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection announced on November 5 that several fall hunting seasons are under way or about to begin, with the fall firearms deer season opening on Wednesday, November 18; details are in the department's 2026 Connecticut Hunting and Trapping Guide. Youth hunter training days run November 7-14 — except Sunday, November 8 on state land — when experienced adult hunters may take young people out to experience hunting. Acting Commissioner Emma Cimino reminded the public that fall is a popular season for outdoor activity and that hikers, birdwatchers and other outdoor enthusiasts should be aware of hunting activity around them and prepare accordingly. Connecticut manages its deer season to control the herd, reduce crop damage and limit vehicle collisions. The department also urges hunters to follow safety rules, including wearing blaze orange and positively identifying targets before shooting.
