Sunday, November 8, 2026 · Travel · GSM News

Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, in Jefferson County, West Virginia, will hold a program honoring veterans past and present at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 14, near the Storer College Veterans' Monument at Anthony Hall, 51 Mather Place in Harpers Ferry. The event is open to the public; entrance fees apply, but veterans can enter the park for free.

According to the National Park Service (NPS) news release of November 5, the program will include music, speakers, a wreath-laying ceremony and a flag-raising. Speakers will share a brief history of Storer College and its students who served in World War I. The monument honors Storer College students who served in the Civil War, the Spanish-American War and World War I.

Participants include the Jefferson County High School Air Force Junior ROTC, the Harpers Ferry Middle School band, the Wainwright Baptist Church choir and the Storer College Alumni Association. American Sign Language interpretation will be provided. Veterans with valid identification may obtain a free America the Beautiful Military Pass, which covers entrance and standard amenity fees at national parks and other federal recreation lands.

At 2 p.m., military living-history volunteers and park staff will close the day by firing replica historic weapons in Lower Town. The program is the final event in the park and the Harpers Ferry Park Association's series marking the nation's 250th anniversary, which throughout the year invited visitors to explore the places, people and choices that shaped the nation. The event is sponsored by Harpers Ferry National Historical Park and the Harpers Ferry Park Association.
