Sen. Ron Johnson Says There Is Corruption Inside the Trump Administration; White House Responds

Sunday, November 8, 2026 · Federal · GSM News

WASHINGTON — Republican U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, a longtime ally of President Donald Trump, said in a Fox News interview on November 7 that there is corruption inside the Trump administration, adding that voters had expected the government to drain the swamp but that "the swamp won." The White House responded in a statement on November 8, saying President Trump "has launched an all-out war on fraud across the entire federal government, holding criminals accountable and saving taxpayers billions of dollars."

Johnson, first elected in 2010 as part of the tea party movement and now chair of the Senate Budget Committee, cited recent claims by former top federal health official Calley Means on Joe Rogan's podcast. Means accused leading Trump aides and political advisers of bowing to special interests and powerful lobbyists, prioritizing fundraising over health, and blocking policies championed by the Make America Healthy Again movement. Johnson said Means "lays out in gory detail the corruption" across all branches of government, and added: "I'm sad to say, within the Trump administration."

Johnson later clarified in a social media post that he was accusing "deep state actors in every administration of corruption," not just the Trump administration, writing that "the deep state swamp is alive and well in spite of President Trump's sincere efforts to drain it." Trump, speaking to reporters over the weekend, said: "If somebody is dishonest, I consider them not only against the country, I consider that dishonest against me."

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Johnson's Fox News remarks differed from comments he made to the newspaper after the midterm elections, when he blamed the media and education systems for Tuesday's outcome. After January, Johnson will be the only Republican elected to a statewide office in Wisconsin. In the interview he also said Republicans need to re-embrace the founders' principle of limited government to win in 2028 and "stop mortgaging our children's future."
