Russia Says It Hit Ukrainian Substations and Three Cargo Ships as DTEK Reports 600,000 Without Power in Dnipropetrovsk Region

Sunday, November 8, 2026 · World · GSM News

KYIV — Russia's defence ministry said on November 8 that its forces had struck substations in Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk and Zhytomyr regions overnight and hit three cargo ships carrying military supplies near Odesa and Chornomorsk. The claims were made by the Russian side and have not been independently verified.

Ukrainian energy company DTEK said energy facilities in the Dnipropetrovsk region were damaged in the attack, leaving more than 600,000 customers without power. Ukrainian authorities had not yet published a full assessment of the damage, and repair work was continuing.

Energy infrastructure has been a repeated target in the war. As winter approaches, damage to key nodes such as substations directly affects residential power and heating supplies across Ukraine. The two sides' accounts of targets and results frequently differ.
