U.S. Postal Service to Close Nationwide for Veterans Day on November 11: No Regular Delivery, Service Resumes November 12

Sunday, November 8, 2026 · Federal · GSM News

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) announced on November 4 that it will observe Veterans Day on Wednesday, November 11, with all Post Office locations closed and regular mail delivery paused. Regular mail delivery and retail services will resume on Thursday, November 12.

While Post Offices are closed, customers can still visit usps.com to order stamps and free USPS boxes, and to access services such as Hold Mail, Change of Address, PO Box rental or renewal, and Click-N-Ship to print pre-paid labels.

Self-service kiosks are also available in select Post Office lobbies nationwide. The kiosks offer postage printing for Priority Mail, Priority Mail Express and international shipping, stamps for purchase, the ability to weigh and mail packages, and package tracking information, and many kiosks are available 24/7. As USPS modernizes its retail locations, more locations are adding Rapid Dropoff Stations for pre-labeled items, label printing from merchant-provided QR codes, and USPS Smart Lockers for dropping off and picking up packages.

The Postal Service is an independent federal establishment, mandated to be self-financing and funded by the sale of postage, products and services rather than tax dollars. It delivers mail and packages to more than 170 million addresses six, and often seven, days a week.
