HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced on November 2 that ICE New Orleans, working with its 287(g) law enforcement partners, conducted a five-day targeted immigration enforcement operation in northwestern Alabama during the week of October 19, arresting more than 180 people.

The operation was led by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) New Orleans, with support from local 287(g) partners in Franklin, Lawrence, Colbert and Marshall counties. ICE said many of those arrested have criminal histories that include charges such as aggravated assault, domestic violence, sexual assault, assault on a law enforcement officer, driving under the influence and criminal impersonation, and that some presented additional public safety and immigration enforcement concerns.

"ERO New Orleans is committed to protecting our communities by identifying and apprehending illegal aliens who pose public safety concerns and enforcing our nation's immigration laws," said ERO New Orleans acting Field Office Director Scott Ladwig. "Seven out of the top 10 safest cities in the United States cooperate with ICE. Together, we remain focused on locating and removing those who threaten the safety of northwestern Alabama communities."

ICE said those arrested remain in ICE custody pending immigration proceedings. ERO New Orleans' area of responsibility covers Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee. (Source: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement)
