SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Salt Lake City police on the night of November 6 told some residents of the Yale Crest neighborhood to shelter in place as officers faced an armed man barricaded inside a home. Police responded that evening to a report that a man had made violent threats and went to a residence near 900 South and 1900 East.

Shortly after officers arrived, gunshots were heard from inside the house. The man locked himself inside, and police sealed off the surrounding area, posting live updates on X and asking residents within half a mile to stay indoors and everyone else to stay away. As of midnight on November 6 the standoff was still under way; police said that as of 7 p.m. they had not found anyone else inside the home, and no injuries had been reported.

Salt Lake City police said they would continue to release updates through official channels and urged nearby residents to keep watching for police notices. The Yale Crest neighborhood, near the University of Utah, is a residential area in the eastern part of the city.
