Sunday, November 8, 2026 · White House · GSM News

Washington — The White House on November 8 released President Donald J. Trump's Presidential Message on Diwali, in which he sent his warmest greetings to Americans across the nation celebrating Diwali, the Festival of Lights, a major festival in the Hindu and other religious traditions.

In the message, Trump said that during this special time, families gather around flickering diyas, homes shine with the warmth of ancient traditions, and countless communities glow with the beauty of a celebration thousands of years in the making. He said that this Diwali observes light's enduring triumph over the forces of darkness and honors the goodness that lives within each and every person, timeless values that have long enriched the great story of America.

Trump closed by wishing each American celebrating Diwali that the joyful occasion fill their home with hope and light and their heart with the warmth of those they hold dear.

The message came two days after Trump hosted a Diwali lamp-lighting ceremony in the Oval Office on November 6, joining Indian American officials, business leaders and guests to light a traditional diya and receiving a copy of the Hanuman Chalisa presented by a guest. White House Diwali celebrations date to 2003 under President George W. Bush and have continued under successive presidents, with lighting ceremonies held over the years in the East Room, the Roosevelt Room and the Oval Office. (Source: The White House)
