SAN DIEGO, Calif. — A two-day federal enforcement operation across San Diego County wrapped up October 30 with 35 arrests and four federal indictments charging 42 alleged gang members and associates; seven fugitives remain at large. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of California released the details.

The operation targeted a San Diego County street gang aligned with the Mexican Mafia. Agents served 10 search warrants and seized firearms, drugs and cash. According to the Justice Department, at 6:10 a.m. on October 28, FBI agents serving an arrest warrant at a Lemon Grove home came under gunfire; no one was injured, and the shooting remains under investigation.

The investigation began in mid-2024 and spans communities including San Diego, Chula Vista, Oceanside, Riverside and Temecula. Prosecutors identify the alleged central figure as 49-year-old John Marquez, accused of running an international drug trafficking network moving methamphetamine and fentanyl into California communities. Court filings put methamphetamine prices at $750 to $900 per pound and fentanyl purchase prices at $12,500 to $13,000 per kilogram.

Federal authorities said the sweep is continuing and the fugitive hunt is not over.
