Xavier Beats Dillard 72-61 as Perkins Scores 31 in Crosstown Derby
NEW ORLEANS, La. — Xavier University of Louisiana's men's basketball team beat crosstown rival Dillard 72-61 on the road at Dent Gymnasium on October 30, according to Xavier's official game report.
Senior transfer Dez Perkins scored a game-high 31 points, hitting all nine of his two-point attempts and all four of his three-pointers, plus a free throw. He had 17 points by halftime as Xavier led 38-34 at the break.
Perkins, a Baton Rouge native and Madison Prep graduate who previously played at NCAA Division II Clark Atlanta, has quickly become Xavier's scoring core since transferring this season. The win moves Xavier to 2-1; Dillard falls to 0-2.
The two New Orleans schools' crosstown meetings are traditionally fierce, and the October 30 game drew a large local crowd. Xavier continues its road trip in its next outing, looking to carry the derby momentum forward.
