Tulane Beats Charlotte 38-31 in Overtime on Bruno's Winning Touchdown
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Tulane's Green Wave beat the Charlotte 49ers 38-31 in overtime on the road on October 30 in a back-and-forth game, Sports Illustrated reported.
Tulane fell behind in the first half after an intercepted pass and a fumbled kickoff return cost them two scores, but rallied after halftime. In the final 1:52 of regulation, the Green Wave drove from their own 39 to the Charlotte 11, where freshman Cam Roberts caught the touchdown that tied the game at 31.
In overtime, New Orleans native Dagan Bruno powered across the goal line on fourth-and-one for the winning touchdown, and Tulane's defense held in Charlotte's overtime possession to preserve the win. Quarterback Tres Johnson completed 28 of 36 passes for 284 yards and a touchdown, and Johnny Daniels rushed 13 times for 99 yards and two scores. Charlotte's Henry Rutledge ran 19 times for 107 yards — the fifth 100-yard rusher Tulane's defense has allowed this season.
Head coach Will Hall praised his team's resilience in adversity, while Charlotte was left to rue a missed chance at a home upset.
