19th Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival Opens November 5 With 73 Films and Five World Premieres

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The 19th Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival runs November 5 through 15, screening 73 films over 10 days, including five world premieres, organizers announced with the lineup release on October 30.
This year's theme explores how stories travel across generations and geographies, and how people find belonging in many places at once. The opening film is "Kiyoshi," about Philadelphia queer, AIDS and civil rights activist Kiyoshi Kuromiya; the centerpiece is "Sgt. Haane." The lineup also includes documentaries, shorts, international titles, local work and a horror program.
Festival events include a November 7 conversation at the Asian Arts Initiative in Chinatown featuring a 6abc anchor and a Korean Wave actor. The festival's creative director said the curation is built around the idea that Asian American stories transcend any single place or identity.
The festival is one of the Philadelphia Asian American community's signature annual cultural events; Chinese American film fans can find the full schedule and ticketing on the festival's website.
