Quincy Wins 88-84 as Teams Combine for Record 172 Points in Illinois Playoff Game

CHICAGO, Ill. — A high school football playoff game on October 30 produced a record scoreline: Quincy beat Chicago's Gage Park 88-84, with the teams combining for 172 points to break the Illinois High School Association playoff record for a single game, Sports Illustrated reported.
The previous mark was 166 points, set in 2021 when Springfield beat Rock Island 94-72. The teams also combined for 1,454 yards of offense, another playoff record.
Quincy quarterback Bryson Little completed 36 of 51 passes for 675 yards and nine touchdowns with one interception, tying the state playoff single-game records for passing yards and touchdowns and setting Class 6A playoff marks for completions and attempts. Gage Park running back Aiden Cleveland ran 22 times for 322 yards and five touchdowns.
The second quarter alone produced 84 points and 11 touchdowns — 46 for Quincy, 38 for Gage Park — and Gage Park led 60-59 at halftime. With 3:42 left in the fourth quarter, officials halted the game because Gage Park's field has no lights and darkness made it unsafe to continue. Both teams traveled about five miles to a lighted field in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood to finish. Quincy ran out the clock after the restart to close an roughly four-hour game and advance to the second round of the Class 6A playoffs.
