Gaffney Edges Greenville 28-27 on Late Two-Point Conversion to Win Region Title

GAFFNEY, S.C. — Gaffney High School's football team beat Greenville 28-27 at home on October 30 to win the SCHSL Region 1-4A championship and close the regular season, the Greenville News reported.
In the final moments, Gaffney lined up for a two-point conversion with 22 seconds left instead of kicking an extra point for the tie. Senior linebacker Kendaris Bailey took a direct snap and powered into the end zone for the winning conversion. Head coach Donnie Littlejohn said handing the ball to Bailey was an easy decision, calling him the best football player in the state.
Gaffney had pulled within one point on Corey Taylor's touchdown pass to Hank Davidson, and the team was unanimous about going for two. The win lifts Gaffney to 9-1 overall and 5-0 in the region, ranked No. 2 in the Super 20 poll, with a first-round bye in the Class 4A playoffs. Greenville falls to 5-5 and 3-2 in the region, ranked No. 10, and learns its November 6 first-round opponent on October 31.
