On St. Francis' 800th Anniversary, Pope Leo XIV Urges Rosary Prayers for Peace

Marking the 800th anniversary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi, Pope Leo XIV said at the Sunday Angelus that Francis "repaired the Church" through faith in Christ and fraternal love. He encouraged the faithful to persevere in prayer for peace during the Franciscan Jubilee Year and asked prayers especially for the Holy Land and innocent victims of violence.
The pope renewed his October rosary appeal, thanking children around the world taking part in "A Million Children Praying the Rosary" from Oct. 1 to 7, and inviting everyone to follow their example so peoples may be freed from the scourge of war.
He also announced a Vatican gathering for the 10th anniversary of Pope Francis' Amoris Laetitia, bringing together heads of the Eastern Catholic Churches and presidents of bishops' conferences to discern how to proclaim the Gospel to families and younger generations today.
