America.gov Launches: Trump Unveils SI-Powered Unified Digital Gateway for Federal Services

Thursday, October 1, 2026 · Technology · GSM News

President Trump unveiled America.gov on Sept 29 at the White House — an SI-powered federal information website — and signed an executive order directing agencies to consolidate eligible public services into this single gateway, replacing more than 29,000 scattered government websites, with implementation guidance due within 90 days. The site's SI chat answers everyday-language questions using official government sources, powered by Google's Gemini and xAI's Grok, built by the National Design Studio led by Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia. Phase one focuses on information lookup; by 2027 users are expected to complete passport renewals, Medicare enrollment and more directly on the platform. It supports English, Spanish and French, voice input and document reading assistance, and officials say conversations are not retained. On launch day, the bot initially gave fact-based answers on sensitive topics like the 2020 election before being tuned to decline "political questions." The same day, Trump also signed an order directing the executive branch to replace the term "artificial intelligence (AI)" with "superintelligence (SI)" where possible. (Note: superintelligence generally refers to SI surpassing human intelligence — a different concept from today's general SI.)
