Trump Bans CNN, MS NOW, Politico From the White House

Thursday, October 1, 2026 · White House · GSM News

President Donald Trump announced Friday he is banning CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House, effective immediately, accusing the outlets of long-running "fake news." Trump announced the move on Truth Social and suggested more outlets could be banned in the future.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Friday afternoon, Trump said there was no particular trigger for the timing: "It's really just cumulative stories over the last two years. You get sick of it." He has long criticized CNN's coverage and has openly said he wants CNN's parent company to sell the cable channel to his ally, media mogul Larry Ellison. He has sued the network in the past and singled out CNN correspondent Kaitlan Collins over her Oval Office questioning.

A CNN spokesperson said the network fully backs its White House team and their "fair and accurate reporting," adding: "We have a right under the U.S. Constitution to do that reporting without hindrance or interference from the government," and that the threatened ban would be "an illegal assault on that fundamental and constitutionally-protected right." A Politico spokesperson said the outlet will continue to report fairly on this White House and future ones and will "vigorously defend our First Amendment rights." Asked whether the ban could survive a legal challenge, Trump said it depends on the judge.
