Asylum Hill Congregational Church in Hartford Holds Its Sunday Community Meal: Take-Home Meals for 150, With Volunteers and Donations Welcome

Sunday, November 1, 2026 · Faith · GSM News

Asylum Hill Congregational Church in Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut, holds its weekly Sunday Community Meal on November 1 at 12:00 p.m. at 814 Asylum Avenue, Hartford, CT 06105. Anyone can come by and pick up a meal to take home.

Each meal costs approximately $4.00, and the church plans food for 150 people each Sunday, about $600 for each event. Volunteers help set up tables, package food, serve the meals and clean up, and are asked to plan to stay until 1:30 p.m.; residents who can help for only part of the time are still welcome, and sign-ups are taken through the church's event page.

The church is also collecting donations: home-baked cookies, pre-packaged one or two to a sealed bag to be included in the to-go boxes, and shelf-stable items such as granola bars, juice boxes, individually packaged snacks, applesauce, bags of apples or oranges, and paper bags of any size, all of which can be dropped off by 12:00 noon on Sundays.

Those who cannot attend can still underwrite all or part of a meal with a donation, with a $10 minimum. The meal is organized by the Rev. Lara Franklin, who can be reached at 860-216-9835.

Middle and high school students from the congregation can also sign up to help at the Community Meal on the first Sunday of each month through the church's youth ministries.
