Three Colorado Congressional Offices Receive White-Powder Letters as Federal Agencies Investigate

DENVER — Denver is a city in Denver County, Colorado (a consolidated city-county). The Colorado district offices of three U.S. representatives received letters containing an unknown white powder on October 19. The letters were delivered to Rep. Joe Neguse's office in Boulder, Rep. Jason Crow's office in Aurora and Rep. Brittany Pettersen's office in Lakewood.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the FBI and the U.S. Capitol Police are investigating. Crow said his staff was safe and his office remained open to constituents, and he thanked the FBI, Capitol Police, Aurora police and other responding agencies. Neguse said law enforcement responded quickly and that there was no continuing threat to public safety in the area. Pettersen said her office had received one of more than 800 suspicious envelopes sent to elected officials' offices across the country in recent days.
Similar letters have been delivered to congressional offices and to election officials in at least eight states, and some were intercepted before delivery. Authorities say none of the letters tested so far has been found to contain a hazardous substance, and investigators are working to identify who sent them. All three members of Congress said the threats would not stop their offices from serving constituents. (GSM, based on statements from the members' offices, The Denver Focal and Colorado Public Radio)
