Meta Earnings Call: Muse Passes 10 Million Agent Setups in About Six Weeks; Reality Labs Operating Loss Expected to Narrow to About $15 Billion Next Year

MENLO PARK — Beyond the headline results, Meta used much of its third-quarter earnings call on October 21 to talk about Muse, its personal agent. According to the call transcript, Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg said: "In just a month and a half, more than 10 million people in the US and Canada have set up Muse personal agents." About 25 percent of those users are active daily, growth remains strong, and Muse has been "number 1 in the App Store almost every day," he said. Shopping has emerged as the most popular use case, and businesses using agents to communicate with customers are showing early strong momentum.

Zuckerberg also laid out a path for Reality Labs: the unit's operating loss will come down to approximately $15 billion next year and trend toward profitability from there. He said Muse could eventually generate higher average revenue per user than the company's advertising business in the United States. Threads, he added, has overtaken X in monthly active users, with time spent per user up more than 20 percent year over year.

Chief Financial Officer Susan Li addressed the cost side, saying Muse is a compute-intensive service and that scaling its user base "is going to require a significant investment in compute and infrastructure and cost to serve," with total cost to serve expected to rise; at the same time, the company expects compute cost efficiency to improve by more than tenfold over the next year. She also disclosed that Partnership Ads reached a $15 billion annual run rate, up more than 97 percent year over year; that Meta 1 subscriptions and trials reached 15 million; and that nearly 10 million advertisers used the company's generative SI creative tools during the quarter. Operating metrics shared on the call included a 10 percent year-over-year increase in ad impressions and a 14 percent increase in average price per ad in the third quarter.
