The Gift is Sunny Zhao's debut feature as writer-director. Ten-year-old Abigail Phillips discovers a forgotten piano deep in the woods on her father's farm and uncovers a mystery spanning generations; after her mother's sudden passing, she finds solace in music, and her father sends her to Paris to pursue a career as a concert pianist while he investigates the piano's origins himself. Shot on location across all four seasons over several years, the film stars Emma Barnett, who began playing Abigail at age 10 and literally grows up on screen, with settings ranging from rural Virginia to the concert stages of Paris.
GSM previously reported the film's October 26 global online release date and its Apple TV pre-sale. With all four platforms now live, the film is available to audiences worldwide on demand for the first time.
