My Chemical Romance Earns Its First Billboard 200 No. 1: 'The Black Parade' Reissue Tops the Chart 20 Years After Its No. 2 Peak

My Chemical Romance's landmark album 'The Black Parade' has reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart on the strength of its 20th anniversary reissue, according to Billboard's breaking chart report on November 1 by Keith Caulfield. It is the band's first No. 1 album, and a new career peak for the album itself.

When 'The Black Parade' was first released in 2006, it debuted and peaked at No. 2, selling 240,000 copies in its first week but stuck behind the 'Hannah Montana' soundtrack's 281,000. The band's other albums also fell short of the top: 'Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge' peaked at No. 6 and 'Danger Days' at No. 8, leaving the band without a chart-topping album until now.

The new peak was driven by the 20th anniversary deluxe edition released on October 23, which adds six bonus tracks — three era B-sides and three live recordings — to the original 14-song album, alongside a physical reissue spanning 15 vinyl variants and multiple CD and cassette editions. Just before the reissue, the album sat at No. 139 on the Billboard 200, in its 161st week on the chart.

GSM reported on October 29 that the album was eyeing its first No. 1; the result is now in, two decades on. This story carries the official music video for the album's lead single, 'Welcome to the Black Parade.'
